An artist, R. Stennett, designed a forfit game with
this text in it. The game was for Christmas parties. According to
Iona and Peter Opie, in their book, A
Nursery Companion, (Oxford
University Press, ISBN 0 19 212213 4) it was issued by Dean and Munday in
November of 1824. Each player had to read one division in turn as fast
as he could, paying a penalty for each mistake. If that was too simple,
all players were to read the text at the same time but each was
to start reading a word or two after the previous player had begun. Thanks to Rick Reid who did all the hard work to find this gem. |
